On Wednesday 30th November Ercall Wood held the first round of the Rotary Young Chef of the Year Competition 2016-2017 and the result was truly amazing. Seven students participated: Amber Lewis Year 7, Emilie Hatch Year 7, Deja McGowan Year 7, Lily Meiklejohn Year 7, Luke Hajdasz Year 9, Zee Gibson Year 9 and Curtis Thomas Year 11. The design brief was to produce a healthy two course meal for two people in one hour 30 minutes for less than £10s, as well as preparing the table on which to serve the meal to three judges.
The winner was Zee Gibson who produced a Vegan based meal of, healthy Sushi with seaweed and roasted vegetables followed up by Vegan matchatea cupcakes with lychees, a meal described by Robert Bird as one of the best he had tasted for a long time, especially considering the age of Zee.
Joint runners up were Deja who cooked Chicken with grilled Chorizo sauce on a bed of roasted potatoes and vegetables followed by lemon cheese cake and Curtis who prepared Stuffed Chicken with lemon, caper and chilli followed by apple crumble and custard.
Zee will now go through to the District Semi Final in Shrewsbury on the 1st February 2017.
