Update from Mr Gummery - 15.01.21
Can I start by thanking parents for the positive feedback we have received so far this term.
Your continued support is truly appreciated as we move forward together through this period of lockdown.
We now have a timetable in place to support a blended learning approach at home. Blended learning means that the provision is a combination of live Microsoft Teams lessons, narrated Microsoft PowerPoints, videos and Show My Homework activities.
We are using live lessons as part of our remote learning approach for the first time and have been happy with its initial impact both in terms of teacher quality and student participation. We will continue to monitor our strategy and have already identified areas that we can improve upon further in the upcoming weeks. Our approach is based on current research into what works well for different students and although nothing can replace being in the academy in front of the expert teacher, we believe that we have the right combination based on the research provided. As you can appreciate, it is difficult to find the perfect balance for all students when providing remote learning; there will always be students that have too much or too little work. Those needing support in managing their workload can speak to their Form Tutor or Student Support manager and those needing additional work can find support on the student home page.
The government have sent out guidance which is available on our website to support your understanding as parents on the types of activities on offer from academies across the country.
PD day postponed
We were due to have an additional inset day on Monday 18th January, but this has been postponed to later in the academic year due to the disruptive start of the academy term. It will therefore be a normal remote learning day on Monday. Our key worker provision will be open as normal.
Thank you once again for your continued support.
